Monochromatic Mind

This book is a fiction passion project that includes photography and story telling to activate your imagination. The black & white photography has more emotion and the short story draws you into the picture. Each short story is completely different than the other.

Example Stories

STEAM POWER

You are flying through the clouds, and you come upon an old steam engine. You fly closer as it’s moving along the track at full speed. You can hear the wheels clanking as the whistle blows and smoke puffs out of the smokestack. As you fly closer, the sounds get louder, and you can smell the burning coal. You find yourself in the conductor seat and feel the rumble and power of this timeless machine. You start to feel butterflies in your stomach at the raw power. Where are you going?

TRAVEL BACK IN TIME

You are driving down a country road and stop at an old covered bridge. This bridge was the only passage across a raging river for hundreds of years. The wood is brittle and aged with years of service. You walk through its arched frames and transport to the 1800s. The smell of horses and the sounds of old wooden buggies fills your ears. What else do you see in the 1800s?

INTENSE PRESSURE

You are part of the salvage dive team during World War II. You slide the heavy solid metal helmet over your face. Your team checks your oxygen hose and seals everything tight. Before you leap, you feel the weight of your suit on deck. With one step, you are weightless. The pressure around you increases as you sink. What do you see as you get closer to the bottom of the ocean?

TRANSPARENT SEA

You dive into the cold ocean and see a glowing jellyfish in the distance. You begin to swim to see its beauty up close. You feel its soft, feathery tentacle brush against your leg. Within seconds, you shrink to the size of a grain of sand. The current pushes you up into the clutch of the tentacles. The jellyfish starts to glow and takes off through the ocean at lightning speed with you in it. You watch everything in the sea fly by you in this transparent vessel. What do you see?

Book Description

This book is an invitation to embark on a journey into the limitless expanse of the human imagination. In a world with technology and inundated with preconceived notions of possibility, this book serves as a beacon, reminding us of the boundless potential within our minds. It is a celebration of creativity in its purest form. Through a collection of imaginative micro-stories, readers are transported to worlds both familiar and fantastical. Every story is accompanied by striking black-and-white photographs, serving as visual prompts to ignite the creative spark within. As renowned photographers eloquently express, there is a certain magic inherent in black-and-white imagery. Far from being restrictive, monochrome photography allows for a level of abstraction that transcends the confines of reality, inviting readers to explore realms of fantasy and emotion beyond the limitations of color. The book urges us not to passively consume the stories fed to us by the world but to actively engage our imaginations to tear down the barriers of what we believe to be possible and to embrace the unknown with open arms.

Book Reviews

I am reading MCM for the third time. Each time the text says something different. The use of black, white, and gray tones in the photography continues to amaze me. The writing format is very effective in conveying the author’s mystical-like environment. It allows the author to create a dream sequence. I hope others enjoy it as much as I have.

I understand this is the author’s first attempt at a new book format. Nailed it!! On the grammatical side, second person singular is a very tough tense to maintain. However, the author maintains to perfection the verb tenses. Using this verb tense allowed the reader to go down the road of many personal memories.

Is an immersive journey into the depths of my imagination. I read one story a night and was transported to fantastical worlds, embracing the power of my own imagination. The book is suitable for readers of all ages, inviting them to actively engage their own imaginations. This book is beyond mere entertainment, inspiring readers to unleash their creative potential and embark on a journey of endless possibilities.
